The Aston Martin DB12 is the latest model from the iconic British marque, replacing the DB11. It was unveiled to the public a few hours ago and is an impressive example of what Aston Martin calls a 'super' tourer. But what makes the DB12 so special? Here are some facts and details you should know. The DB12 is powered by a 4,0-liter V8 engine supplied by Mercedes-AMG. However, Aston has once again significantly revised the engine in order to achieve more power and torque. The V8 now delivers 680 hp at 6000 rpm and 800 Nm of torque between 2750 and 6000 rpm. This is not only significantly more than the old V8 with 528 hp and 695 NM, but also more than the old V12 with 630 hp and 700 NM.

The V8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that has a shorter rear axle ratio. Aston Martin states that the DB12 accelerates from 3,5 to 0 km/h in just 100 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h. The DB12 is not only faster than the DB11, but also much more agile and dynamic. It features a newly developed chassis with firmer anti-roll bars and adaptive dampers, and also has an electronic rear differential that can do everything from fully open to fully locking. The steering has a fixed ratio of 13,09:1 with variable, speed-dependent assistance.
Aston claims the improvements increase steering feel and responsiveness without sacrificing comfort. The DB12 is also the first model to feature specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres, measuring 275/35/21 at the front and 315/30/21 at the rear. The tires have a special rubber compound tuned by Aston Martin and noise-dampening polyurethane foam inserts. There are also three different 21-inch wheel designs: five-spoke (standard), multi-spoke and Y-spoke.
subtle changes compared to the DB12
At first glance, the design of the DB12 is similar to the DB11, but there are some subtle differences. The grille has become larger, the rear-sloping headlights have a new light signature and the frameless side mirrors are smaller. And the car's track width is also wider at the front and rear (about 0,2 inch (about 5 mm) at the front and 0,9 inch (2,29 cm) at the rear). The bonnet also features Aston Martin's recently revised winged new logo, making its first appearance on a production car.
However, the interior of the DB12 is radically different from that of the DB11. Most notably, Aston Martin finally got rid of Mercedes' old infotainment system and replaced it with its own. The new one features a 10-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard and a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. The interior is also designed to be more luxurious and of higher quality than that of the DB11. There's plenty of leather, Alcantara, and wood, plus optional carbon or aluminum accents. The seats are more comfortable and offer more lateral support.
a worthy successor to the DB11
The Aston Martin DB12 is a statement car, as technical director Roberto Fedeli says. A worthy successor to the DB11, it's a fascinating sports car with style and substance. It is expected to start at $245K and launch early next year. It's a car for those who want the best of the best - or at least something very close to it.
