DeLorean: Neo-DMC-12 - promising teaser from Italdesign!

According to information from DeLorean Motor Company, the new model with an electrified powertrain! Italdesign, the company that got to design the look of the original DeLorean DMC-12, has another announcement published on the project for the renaissance of the vehicle icon. The current version of the DeLorean Motor Company is still holding back with concrete details about the eagerly awaited vehicle. However, it was promised to unveil the car later this year. Interested parties can already register for updates on the official homepage. Again, however, the teaser is pretty meaningless and only shows the opening ones Sliding doors. At the front draws a light signature with a v-shaped emblem in the middle all eyes on you. The logo indicates the vehicle silhouette with the doors open. Also with regard to the powertrain, it is indicated that the company has a "Journey to Electrification“ plans.

As early as January 2021, an amazingly similar teaser image (see link above) was published by ItalDesign. This also shows the body of the DeLorean with open doors. The mini difference is that the DMC sign was to see. Both teaser shots appear to have softer lines compared to the original. In particular the Fender area appears less angular, while the panels of the doors are more curved. Behind the legendary look of the DeLorean DMC-12 is Italdesign Giugiaro. Company founder Giorgetto Giugiaro made a name for himself in the 70s and 1980s with his passion for wedge-shaped vehicles. He also immortalized the look on other models such as the Lotus Esprit, the Maserati Bora, the Merak and, to a lesser extent, in the first-generation Volkswagen Scirocco.

famous since Back to the Future

Despite the familiar design, the original DeLorean DMC-12 failed as a product no success achieve and therefore only went into production between 1981 and 1982. Entire books tell the fascinating story of Detroit-born former General Motors manager John Z. DeLorean and his dream of owning a car. From 1985, the DMC-12 gained recognition as a time machine in the film series "Back to the Future' the status of legend. And the current project is not the first attempt to build on old successes. In 2007, the current company leaders decided to manually build few new copies. About 10 years later, another attempt to assemble the DMC-12 from original parts followed. There were enough components to build at least 300 copies. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
