The future of Lotus is going to be all-electric and like many other automobile manufacturers, the Geely daughter battery-powered e-cars. In this future plan called Vision 80, which is to be implemented by the brand's 80th birthday in 2028, is also firmly anchored in the fact that the brand wants to get out of the niche in which it is now and become a premium brand that is globally positioned, and sold worldwide. In addition, Lotus would like one climate neutral company which, as already mentioned above, only builds battery-powered electric vehicles. New, mass-produced models should also help, which could increase sales from the previous 1800 units per year to over 10.000 units per year, if the plan works. More platforms should enable a broader range of models, which should appeal to a broader clientele.

New models are boosting sales.

The new flagship of the brand called avoid is an electrical one Hypercar with four electric motors, a gigantic battery and 2.000 PS. This vehicle only weighs 1.680 kgwhereby a power to weight ratio which is similar to that of a Formula 1 racer. They actually wanted to start production of the hypercar last year, but the start of production will be delayed until the end of 2021, which is also due to the corona pandemic. With Geely and Etika, you have two financially strong partners behind you who can also give the brand a certain degree of planning security.

The new Emira will be the last Lotus with an internal combustion engine.

The successor model for the three older models will be launched on July 6, 2021 Elise, exige and Evorawho will listen to the name Emira who last lotus with gasoline engine presents. Contrary to various speculations in the British media, the new Lotus Emira will not be a hybrid model, since a hybrid does not fit the philosophy of the brand, since the components are too heavy and therefore cost too much weight to create a driving machine of the purest water, like you would expect it from a lotus. The new Emira even stands on a newly developed aluminum platform, which will probably also be used for future electric vehicles. The three previous models Elise, Exige and Evora will finally disappear from the Lotus model portfolio at the end of 2021, and it will be interesting to see which future models from Hethel will join the new Emira.

Four-cylinder or V6 engines should power the Emira.

Much has been speculated about what kind of drive the new Lotus Emira will get. It could be a V6 supercharger from Toyota, like the one used in the Evora. However, it is also a very realistic option for Lotus to buy an engine from the Renault group, which for example the current Alpine A110 helps to achieve driving performance similar to a sports car. This just 1,6 liter four-cylinder, which is between 252 and 292 hp generated, in the eyes of many Lotus fans would certainly be a worthy farewell to the age of the combustion engine for the British sports car brand.

Our conclusion on Lotus Vision 80:

We are very curious to see whether the English niche manufacturer Lotus will succeed in putting its ambitious plans into practice. The reputation, the know-how and also the financial background, which seems stable thanks to Geely and Etika, would undoubtedly be there to conjure up a premium manufacturer of international format from the somewhat misunderstood wallflower, which is much broader than before.
