1991 Mercedes-AMG 6.0 Widebody Coupe!

Long before Mercedes-Benz decided to take over AMG completely, there were sensational creations from today's in-house tuner from Affalterbach. At that time, the tuning measures were even wilder than today, because AMG has now adapted to the mainstream, and even downsizing and electrification are no longer foreign words. At the beginning of the 1990s, a four-cylinder AMG car would have been unthinkable. So left with that 1991 Mercedes-AMG 6.0 Widebody Coupe on the basis of the two-door W124 a real steam hammer the factory halls. We would like to present this vehicle to you today. It will soon be auctioned at Broad Arrow Auctions in the USA. The car is expected to fetch between $750.000 and $900.000.

Bolide with 90s tuning!

The vehicle was originally delivered to Japan, but was brought to the USA in 2022. The mileage of the AMG is only 36.701 km and this car also has an original one AMG serial number. The tuning may for today's standards Funfair handicraft look, but it was very popular back then. A Wide body kit, which features heavily flared wheelhouses housing 17-inch OZ Racing-branded aluminum alloys, would look vastly different on modified automobiles today.

Furthermore, the rear suspension was changed and a Torsen locking differential found its way into the wide body coupe. Not to be forgotten, of course, are the already mentioned OZ Racing rims, which have a blue finish, polished beds and drop center optics. The shade of blue (Nautical Blue Metallic) dominates the vehicle, because it is not only found on the body and the rims, but also in the interior.

Blue as far as the eye can see!

Recaro leather seats in nautical blue metallic and burl wood on the center console testify to the shrill and eccentric character of the car. Furthermore, a new four-spoke steering wheel from AMG was installed and the driver can see a white instrument panel from AMG.

A 6-liter V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine drives the car!

In the front, a high-capacity V8 petrol engine without supercharging does its job, which delivers a whopping 375 hp. Unfortunately, we don't have any information on the torque, but it should be sufficient to ensure a full pull. Presumably, the power is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels by means of a four-speed automatic transmission. Regrettably, one can only speculate about the performance.

Our conclusion:

  • Crazy project that 1991 was commissioned by a Japanese car enthusiast, which we believe should end up in loving collectors' hands. We are curious to see whether the expected sum can be achieved at the auction. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
