Mini transforms classic model into electric vehicle without additional weight!

The classic mini has a decent portion electric power added and all that withoutto weigh more on the scale. How it works? Join us as we delve into a story of innovation, respect for the classics and the electric revolution. The heart of the converted classic is a compact one 19 kWh battery, the one Electric motor with a whopping 100 hp brought to life. It's always such a thing to modernize old treasures. Especially with the Mini, which stands for driving fun through and through, you would think that it would with its gas heart is best off. But times are changing and (almost) nobody can escape the e-mobility wave - not even the classic Mini. Especially not when there are such passionate tuners as in Australia.

old Mini as an electric vehicle

The particular specimen from the pictures was made by MiniAustralia in partnership with Fellen Australia tackled. The first step? Out with the old engine and transmission of the '95 model. Then a new one came BMH front axle carrier from Fellten into play. And then the heart: the electric one Powertrain.

The result is impressive: Despite the electrical conversion, the Mini retains its character original weight and even the same weight distribution. This is made possible, among other things, by the compact 19 kWh battery, the one 72 kW electric motor , and a Torque of 175 Nm drives. The Mini lays down with a full charge up to 175 km back and creates the sprint 100 km/h in a brisk 8 seconds. And loading is also relatively quick, thanks to one 6,6 kW onboard charger and an Type 2 charging socket.

Innovations down to the smallest detail

Fellten Australia has not only lent a hand with the motorization, but also innovative technologies such as a regenerative braking system introduced, which can be used in city or sport mode depending on your preference. "Fly-by-Wire" throttle body, a PTC interior heating , and a liquid cooling system complete the technology package. And the best part? All new components can without any modification to the chassis can be mounted.

Dave Budge, Fellten's Chief Product Officer, sees the project as more than just a conversion: "In Australia we are still in the early stages of e-mobility. However, the project shows what sustainable transport can look like and invites people to talk about sustainable solutions.“ The Mini is more than just a vehicle. It is a statement and testimony to the fact that tradition and modernity can form a symbiosis. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
