Hard to believe but this vehicle is Reality! When we took the first photo of the Skoda 130 L we got out of a rendering. But that is definitely not the case! The in England of Steven Gibson The newly built Czech is absolutely unique and equipped with modern technology, including from the Audi TT. Thus it is a so-called "RestomodVehicle "(old body with new technology). At least at first glance! Why? We'll explain to you in a moment. But first a bit of history: The oldtimer known in England as the “Škoda Estelle” was built from 1984 to 1990 and actually delivered with a water-cooled inline four-cylinder in the rear. The 43 kW / 58 PS, in combination with the curb weight of less than 900 kg, were sufficient to achieve an impressive 150 km / h. In GDR times, that was a real announcement to a Trabant 601 or a Wartburg 353.
chic multi-piece alloy wheels
But this copy would probably have the "Melkus RS1000" (the fastest car in the GDR) easily the taillights shown. Because under the hood of the 220 PS tinkers strong 1,8-liter turbo engine (APX, BAM, BEA) from the first generation of the Audi TT (8N) which also has the manual transmission and all-wheel drive from the Ingolstadt. And the conversion is done intelligently. And here we come back to the "Restomod". Because it is "none"! Because basically you have kept the Audi TT and put the body of the 130 L over it. Thus, the term fits every timer much better. These are modern vehicles with the look of a classic car! So much for that. Of course, countless changes to the Skoda body had to be made so that it fits naturally. For example, the metal widebody kit was indispensable because of the wider track.
Bonnet with large central air opening
But this one has been modeled so skilfully that the basic form of the classic is still completely preserved. Although the jaws on both sides have grown enormously in the width, small accents such as the oval side indicators or the recesses for the front apron have been preserved. Even the bonnet, apart from a large central air opening and a quick release, remained the Czechs'. It can still be opened laterally and supplies the turbo four-cylinder with fresh air. And typical Skoda 130 L is also the rear view. Of course, this has grown significantly in the width, but also here we have tried to maintain the factory lines. The rear apron is hardly changed and as the apron on both sides embedded in the fender flares. And even the factory-made little Ducktail spoiler lip on the tailgate has remained.
"20V Turbo" emblem on the right
But while it still bears the Skoda logo on the left as it did back then, a “20V Turbo” emblem on the right informs about the new drive. Further changes to the rear are completely darkened taillights, a small carbon lip on the roof and of course a befitting sports exhaust system with two round stainless steel tailpipes. Here the factory right / left system of the TT has been eliminated. On the other hand, the red rear headlights below the apron do not come from the accessories or from the TT. The entire vehicle was of course repainted and got a beautiful multi-part aluminum wheel set as a visual highlight, which currently has a dark gray rim star and high-gloss polished rim beds. As a visual eye-catcher, there were still bright green rim rings and the brake calipers of the TT sports brake system are painted in a striking green color. And of course the Czech can also be individually adjusted in height using a coilover suspension.
a Sparco sports steering wheel without airbag
Countless small details such as the darkened turn signals at the front, the original rear-view mirror or the spoiler lip adapted to the old front apron round off the detailed changes on the outside impressively. And even the cabin has been extensively converted. Here there were the slightly rocked-down chairs from the TT, a new leather-covered rear seat and at the same time, however, the factory dashboard of the 130 L was definitely wanted. That was also successful and so the old fittings were combined with the new displays of the TT and a Sparco sports steering wheel without an airbag was also installed. The vehicle is - typically England - a right-hand drive and in addition to the sporty steering wheel, of course, the TT center console with the beautiful aluminum gear knob is also noticeable. The curb weight will only be insignificantly over a ton and so the acceleration values should cause problems for many current vehicles.
