The SEMA car show is over and alongside brand new vehicles like the one Jeep Gladiator, the Toyota Tacoma and of course the 2019er Supra There have also been a lot of older cars to LA. It does not matter Ferrari F355, Nissan Frontier or even an old one 1969er Camaro - Tuning knows no age! The American tuner HPA Motorsports, who visited the SEMA show with a VW Beetle, also proves this to us. The new edition of the Beetle as the "New Beetle" (Type 9C) started in 1997 and in 2011 the "VW Beetle" (Type 5C) followed as the official successor. But similar to the 9 C, the second attempt to bring the retro design of the legendary Beetle back onto the road was not very successful - apart from the USA where the Beetle reached quite good numbers. Reason enough to inform the workforce at “Volkswagen de México” in Puebla, Mexico that the last Beetle will roll off the assembly line on July 10, 2019.

705 PS and 1.084 NM torque

A pity, because HPA shows with a visually very subtle remodeling that the Beetle can advance with some changes to the absolute highlight. The vehicle as a project HPA FTX-700 was created on the basis of the "Beetle Dune (150 PS, plastic planks all around, front bumper with large air intake and honeycomb grid etc.) “And was built over the last two years at the customer's request. As a highlight, the Wolfsburg carries a significantly modified 3,2-liter VR6 engine under the hood. The result is a crazy 705 PS and 1.084 NM torque that provide tremendous propulsion. That's just about that sevenfold Performance of a Beetle 1.2 TSI and even the 220 PS strong 2.0 TSI top model (built by 11 / 2014-03 / 2018) does not even reach a third of the power. HPA installed a BorgWarner EFR9174 turbocharger to make the jump in performance possible, there were grinding pistons + forged connecting rods, as well as a new one crankshaft and a valve gear from Ferrea.

TT RS subframe for reinforcement

By the way, there is one more Methanol / water injection installed and even a liquid-cooled Air Intake System arrived. All this is combined with each other via chip tuning and leads into a powerful soundscape of a specially made 88 mm stainless steel sport exhaust system with central tailpipe. And of course, the brute power can not be delivered with the factory-made components to the 4Motion AWD. HPA therefore installed a reinforced DQ500 7 gear DSG and a TT RS subframe for improved body stability. Incidentally, the contact with the carriageway is being forged from forged wheels HRE performance wheels produced. Specifically, it is an 19 inch large version of the monobloc rim RS105M. The new wheelset with 275er Michelin PS4 slippers is due to an adjustable KW Clubsport coilover perfectly fitted into the wheel arches and also gives a view of the new brake system free.

in the "Battle of the Builders" selection

The decision was made for an 6 piston system with slotted 355 mm discs in front and the rear axle has an 4 piston system with 335 mm discs installed. Apart from the dull green foliation and the color accents, the rest of the Dune body is almost in production condition. Something else looks the other way around in the cabin. Here we installed a specially adapted roll cage, the back seat flew out and the front seats are against Recaro professional spa carbon KevlarBucket seats exchanged. There were also a few new Alcantara covers and as a highlight an extended lever with three skulls of Bill Wall. The Beetle even responded well enough at SEMA that it was short-listed for the Battle of the Builders award. If we get more information soon, there is of course an update for this report.
