526 HGP PS & 19 incher: the VW Golf 8 R Hurricane (2022)!

At the weekend, a team of trainees presented this year's vehicle project "HURRICANES“ by Volkswagen Group Retail Germany with a double premiere. The vehicle is a high-performance structure based on a VVolkswagen Golf 8 R1, which was fully modified in cooperation with the Volkswagen R. A first presentation took place on Friday afternoon in front of the trade press, members of Volkswagen management and the works council in Warmenau. The vehicle had its public premiere on Saturday at the "R & Coffee" tuning event in Wolfsburg's AutoStadt.

To the already very successful trainee project "HyRACERIn the previous year, the trainees at Volkswagen Group Retail Germany continued seamlessly with their current project in 2022. The name of the vehicle "HURRICANE" alludes to the enormous power and is intended to evoke associations with the Lamborghini Huracán. It joins the series of Volkswagen vehicle designations according to wind (including Vento, Scirocco) and forms the top of this nomenclature with the strongest wind.

The cooperation partner of the project was the premium performance brand volkswagen r and presented the base vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf 8 R1 available for conversion. The project team of eleven trainees also received expert support from professional racing driver and Volkswagen brand ambassador Benny Leuchter, as well as tuning influencer Rick RD48.

After months of project work and a complete conversion, both the long list of special equipment, the optics in "Eifelgrün" as well as the Performance data of the "HURRICANE" with ao 387 kW (526 PS), about 300 km / h top speed and a power-to-weight ratio of 2,75 kg/hp. Furthermore, through the extensive installation of carbon, impressive 200 kg Weight can be saved compared to the base vehicle.

"The Golf R is already an absolute icon in itself. At first we stood in front of the vehicle and didn't know what we could do to improve it, but then our trainees got started together with Benny Leuchter and the result is more than impressive. I am incredibly proud of the achievement of our HURRICANE team!" enthuses project manager Dr. Denis Anic, Head of Principles and Communication of the VGRD. Ulli Link, Managing Director of VGRD Personal & Organization, emphasized the importance of training within Germany's largest automotive trading group and was visibly happy about the "HURRICANE": "Working on great projects like these gives our trainees the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise and creativity. They have put a great car on the road to be proud of."

The VGRD trainee team presented the vehicle for the first time on Friday afternoon in the premises of the cooperation partner, Volkswagen R, and described the course of the project to the enthusiastic audience. In addition to the entire project team, Arne Meiswinkel, Board Member for Human Resources at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Dr. Christian Vollmer, Member of the Board of Management for Production & Logistics at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Dr. Josef Baumert, Member of the Board of Management for Production & Logistics at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Gerado Scarpino, Deputy Chairman of the General and Group Works Council of Volkswagen AG, as well as selected press representatives. Scarpino, sat in the vehicle and praised: "The HURRICANE is a clear example of what happens when you give our trainees, young people, the chance to let their creativity run free."

The first public presentation then took place on Saturday in a perfectly fitting atmosphere: the “R & Coffee” tuning event at the Wolfsburg AutoStadt. The event concept, which originated in the USA, brings tuning fans together with their vehicles for a professional exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. This weekend, more than 150 enthusiastic guests met with their cars, all R models, and experienced the premiere of the “HURRICANE” live on the AutoStadt piazza. The vehicle was presented alongside the participating trainees by tuning influencer, TV presenter and Volkswagen brand ambassador Sidney Hoffmann.
