14 kg less weight, 10 hp bonus! The revised BMW F 900 GS has lost 14 kilograms, but offers 10 hp more. It now comes standard with cornering ABS and traction control. In terms of price, it starts at EUR 13.750, while the F 900 GS Adventure starts at EUR 14.750. An engine update was worked on intensively and the F 900 GS was completely relaunched as a new model in the F two-cylinder enduro series. A striking update of the BMW F 900 GS is the LED headlight, which will delight lovers of symmetry. The new LED light head shines brighter and is lighter than its predecessor from the 850 series. Nevertheless, the trademark of the F 900 GS remains.
BMW F 900, Adventure & F 800 GS
A key feature of the new BMW F 900 GS is its weight loss. At first glance, the slimmer and more aerodynamic fairing around the tank is visible. This now holds 14,5 liters, half a liter less than before, and is made of plastic. That means a weight saving of 4,5 kilograms compared to the old steel tank. That's a significant improvement considering the previous 850 GS model weighed 238 kilograms.
Since the main focus of the new 900 GS is off-road fun, any weight reduction is a win. A quick rundown of the other lighter components: Headlight (-600g), swingarm (-200g), side stand (-400g), exhaust (-1,7kg), rear end (-2,4kg) and the top mentioned tank. BMW promises that the new 900 GS will be around 14 kilograms lighter, which means a total weight of around 228 kilograms. It would be comparable to that DesertX from Ducati (228 kg) and near the norden 901 from Husqvarna (217 kg) and the 890 Adventure R from KTM (214 kg).
Lower pegs and higher handlebars
Like its competitors, the BMW F 900 GS wants to prove itself off-road. That's why she now has pegs that are 20 millimeters lower and handlebars that are 15 millimeters higher. The slimmer design supports easy handling when standing. Even if the rear of the BMW F 900 GS appears minimalist, it has enough space for luggage. It doesn't matter whether it's soft bags or the aluminum case system from the BMW range - everything can be attached without any problems.
BMW F 900 GS Adventure: Ready for the terrain
Both the BMW F 900 GS and the Adventure variant now have a size 43 upside-down fork that can be adjusted in many areas. Both use a directly connected shock absorber with variable settings at the rear. If you want more, you can choose the Enduro Pro package with many adjustments for the standard model. The Adventure version has the Ride Pro package including a Dynamic ESA shock absorber. With both, 230 or 215 mm of travel at the front and rear ensure enough space under the engine.
Frame construction: constant, despite innovations
Visually, the F 900 GS Adventure resembles its predecessor, while the standard F 900 GS features a fresh design. However, both share the same framework. A proven steel bridge frame continues to surround the engine. Despite the familiarity of the engine for the GS twin-cylinder models, already used in the F 900 R and XR, the frame structures remain unchanged. Central is the revised in-line two-cylinder with almost 900 cc and a crank pin offset of 90 degrees. A slightly enlarged bore transforms the old 850 engine into the almost 900 cm³ engine with the same stroke.
The BMW F 900 GS presents itself with 105 hp
In addition, BMW has optimized the cylinder heads of the F-GS models and implanted forged pistons in them. In the past they were cast pistons. The increase in displacement has significantly increased power. The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure now shine with a peak output of 105 hp at 8.500 rpm and a torque of 93 Nm at 6.750 rpm. As a result, the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are no longer suitable for the A2 driving license class. The position is taken entirely by the F 800 GS, which BMW also offers in a 48 hp variant.
The BMW F 900 GS starts at EUR 13.750
All new BMW models not only impress with their engine, but also with a rich standard equipment, which includes a 6,5-inch TFT display, cornering ABS, two driving modes and traction control. BMW also has an extensive list of accessories and packages for the F two-cylinder enduro bikes. However, those who are interested will have to be patient: From the first quarter of 2024, the BMW F 900 GS will be available for EUR 13.750 and the BMW F 900 GS Adventure for EUR 14.750.
