M-Power now also in a moped - The BMW M 1000 RR!

The new BMW M RR was launched today at the same time as the brand new BMW M3 & M4 Competition with up to 510 PS presented. Pure racing technology for the highest performance demands in motorsport and on the road. At the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad introduced the successful M Automobiles offering strategy for motorcycles and has been offering M special equipment and M Performance Parts ever since. With the new BMW M 1000 RR - hereinafter referred to as M RR for short - the first M model from BMW Motorrad based on the S 1000 RR (RR for short) is now celebrating its world premiere. BMW Motorrad follows the philosophy of the strongest letter in the world: M stands worldwide as a synonym for success in racing as well as for the fascination of high-performance models from BMW and is aimed at customers with particularly high demands on performance, exclusivity and individuality. With an engine output of 156 kW (212 hp), a DIN curb weight of just 192 kg with a fully fueled tank and chassis technology and aerodynamics designed for the highest racetrack performance, the new M RR fulfills essential expectations in the top segment of superbikes in this regard.

Engine output of 156 kW (212 hp)

M RR four-cylinder engine based on RR, developed for racing purposes: More top performance and increased top speed. In the new M RR, a water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine that has been extensively modified in the direction of a racing engine based on the RR engine with BMW ShiftCam technology is used to vary valve timing and valve lift. It reaches its peak output of 156 kW (212 hp) at 14 rpm. The maximum torque of 500 Nm is available at 1 rpm. In addition to a maximum speed increased to 113 rpm, the M RR engine has extensive technical optimizations such as new 11-ring forged pistons from Mahle, adapted combustion chambers, compression increased to 000, longer and lighter titanium connecting rods from Pankl, narrower and lighter rocker arms, fully machined intake ports with new port geometry and optimizations on camshafts and intake tract. The lightweight titanium exhaust system is also new. The new M RR engine is even more powerful than the RR engine in the range of 1 min-15 to 100 min-1, which is particularly relevant for the racetrack, without, however, losing its qualities as a fascinating source of power for sporty country road driving .

M winglets and high windshield: brake later and accelerate earlier thanks to the aerodynamic downforce without sacrificing top speed.

Aerodynamics was an essential point in the specification sheet for the development work for the M RR. In addition to the highest possible maximum speed, which is essential for racing victories, the M RR's specifications also included another goal: the best possible contact between the wheels and the road - especially when accelerating. The M winglets on the fairing front, developed during intensive test drives on the racetrack and in the wind tunnel of the BMW Group and made of carbon fiber, take this into account, as they produce aerodynamic downforce and thus additional wheel loads depending on the speed. The additional wheel load on the front wheel counteracts the wheelie tendency, the traction control regulates less, more drive power is converted into acceleration and the driver achieves faster lap times. The winglet effect is also noticeable when cornering and when braking, the downforce enables braking later and ensures increased cornering stability.

Chassis design trimmed for use on the racetrack with modified geometry, optimized wheel load distribution and expanded adjustability of the pivot point.

The chassis of the new M RR is based on the RR with the aluminum bridge frame as the centerpiece and has an optimized upside-down fork and a revised central spring strut with blue spring and Full Floater Pro kinematics. When designing the chassis, the primary goal was to achieve the best possible lap times on the racetrack. The chassis of the M RR is therefore uncompromisingly designed for the racetrack, but also convinces with qualities for the country road. Particular attention was paid to optimizing the driving behavior, the braking and starting pitch compensation as well as giving the driver the best possible feeling for the front and rear wheels.

For the first time, M brakes at BMW Motorrad and M carbon wheels in series.

With the new M RR - analogous to the automobiles from BMW M GmbH - there is for the first time a BMW motorcycle with an M brake. It was further developed directly from the experience with the racing brakes of the BMW Motorrad factory racing machines in the Superbike World Championship and offers maximum fading stability and controllability. On the outside, the M brake calipers have a blue anodized coating in conjunction with the M logo. With the M carbon wheels, the new M RR has additional high-tech components for maximum performance on the racetrack and on the road.

Instrument combination with a perfectly readable 6,5-inch TFT display and an OBD interface for M GPS data logger and M GPS lap trigger that can be used via activation code.

The instrument cluster of the new M RR essentially corresponds to the RR and offers an M start-up animation. As part of the special equipment, extensive data for the use of the M GPS lap trigger and the M GPS data logger (original BMW Motorrad accessories) can be made available via the OBD interface of the instrument cluster using an activation code (content M Competition Package).

Born for racing: M design and dynamic design language of the M RR signal ultimate racetrack performance.

The new M RR emphasizes its racing genes with the light white / M Motorsport color scheme in the basic colors light blue, dark blue and red. Further features of the M RR are the granite gray engine cover and the black painted fuel filler cap.

Uncompromising in design and technology: the M RR with the M Competition Package.

If the standard trim of the new M RR is not enough for you, the M Competition Package is a fascinating mix of fine components for the racing gourmet and the aesthetes at the same time. In addition to the M GPS lap trigger software and the associated activation code, the M Competition Package includes the M milled parts package, the M carbon package and a 220 g lighter swingarm in silver, the friction-optimized, low-maintenance, DLC-coated M Endurance chain and the passenger package including hump cover.

The highlights of the new BMW M 1000 RR.
