Chip tuning on the moped car? Ligier, Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks etc.

Currently very popular are the so-called Moped carswho officially Light motor vehicle or microcar to name. While the bulk of the companions of Aixam, Ligier, Casalini & Co. is still equipped with a conventional combustion engine, there are already electrically powered vehicles from Econelo, Opel or Citroën. And since the little speedsters can be seen more and more frequently on our streets, something is also happening in the tuning scene. The moped cars with combustion engines can be modified in the classic way by making changes to the engine, the exhaust, the variator, the fuel pressure (flow rate) or the air supply. A typical Naturally aspirated engine tuning, of course to a much lesser extent, is therefore possible. For example, 8 hp quickly turn into 12 or more. Almost always illegal, of course!

no matter whether combustion engine or Stromer

In addition to the classic hardware tuning, there are also chip tuning boxes for the common rail injection systems (e.g. JTD, HDI, CDI, etc.) of moped cars for the combustion engine. Similar to the "real" car, the "chip" is plugged in using an adapter and, based on a preset that is usually available, you can start right away. Depending on the chip, there is even the option of changing the performance in different stages. The risk of overloading the transmission, the engine, the variator or the drive shafts is of course there. And it's usually not legal either, so that the AM driver's license is quickly confiscated in the event of a check and the Insurance Cover expires.

also possible on electric light vehicles

And an electric one too Light motor vehicle like the Citroën Ami, the technically identical Opel Rocks, the Renault Twizy 45 or vehicles from Econelo can be tuned. Normally, with modern Stromers, almost everything is done via the electronics and hardly any changes to the hardware. You can only bet on it, faster than 45 km/h to drive or expect an increase in performance (both are also possible) to reach. The little runabouts are usually faster than 45 kilometers per hour with a special unlocking box. Depending on the vehicle, it also works if, for example, the speed sensor (often this sits on a bike) is manipulated or if you simply install larger tires. The possibilities are quite diverse!

Performance increase by means of chip tuning on the Citroën Ami

The Team of for example, the Citroën Ami recently made and one by means of chip tuning performance increase reached. Citroën has redesigned the Ami from the ground up, with a low weight but fairly meager performance. The electric motor comes from Valeo and it drives the differential with a belt. The speedster has 8 hp ex works and reaches a top speed of 45 km/h. means #etuners Stage1 program but the performance increases easily 11 PS. The following video shows what else the Ami engine can do. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report. 1. Hey guys! I am wondering if y'all could help me out.

    Firstly, cool article!
I have an Opel Rocks-E (which is basically the same as the Citroen Ami) and really like it. My only problem is, that I wish it would drive faster than you say it can with a chip tuning box. Unfortunately I can't find any of those anywhere in the web. Would be perfect if y'all could help me out and tell me where to find a chip that would help tuning my Rocks-E. You can message me back at “[email protected]".

Thanks for your reply and have a great day Hans.

    • There are several German tuners that offer chip tuning for the Opel E-Rocks. One example is DTE Systems. They offer the so-called PowerControl system, which can increase the performance of the Opel E-Rock by up to 30%. etuners.gr also does this. Please note, however, that chip tuning light vehicles is not legal in Germany and can lead to a fine or even loss of operating licence.

      VG Tom
