A few days ago, in our contribution to Edo Motorsport BMW i8 CSL-R also on that i8 procar of the Swiss tuner. A vehicle that has basically received similar modifications, but is significantly more aggressive and is specifically designed for the racetrack. Edo basically wanted a souped up i8 safety car created as it is used in Formula E. And in our opinion, that's exactly what was 100% successful. The result is the "2020 i8 Procar LCI coupe“That the sportiness of the hybrid takes to a completely new level, also thanks to the carbon body used (+90%). However, this new level has its price with costs of around € 170.000. On the outside, the flat flounder is characterized by a huge front spoiler and canards installed on the side and the ultra-light fenders with the eye-catching gills come from the tuner Edo Motorsport.
Rear wing based on the M1 Procar
The visual highlight is definitely at the rear. A mighty rear wing in the style of the legendary M1 Procar sits enthroned here, which under optimal conditions brings up to 200 kg of additional contact pressure to the rear axle. The aerodynamic kit is completed with a powerful rear diffuser with integrated fins, which perfectly evacuates the air flowing under the vehicle and has an ultra-light single-flow sports exhaust system integrated on the right-hand side. And the exhaust system is part of a significant increase in performance. From the original 374 PS & 570 NM (LCi) to a stately 490 PS & 890 NM. This means that the B38K15T0 three-cylinder from the Procar is 100 NM stronger than the i8 CSL-R that was initially linked. Improved air flow and a larger turbocharger are partly responsible for the increase in performance.
the electric motor has also been optimized
And Edo Motorsport even managed to modify the 143 hp electric motor at the factory. In fact, you installed a stronger battery and thus achieved an increase in performance to 166 hp. And unmistakably, the i8 has also received an ultra-light 11 × 18 inch BMW Motorsport Forged Race wheelset. The matte black forged wheel set is equipped with 280 mm slicks in the front and 300 mm slicks in the back and of course there is also a special Bilstein coilover in the i8. And the chassis also has a negative camber on the front axle of 3 degrees. In addition to the coilover suspension mentioned, the setup also makes possible a set of adjustable upper wishbones, as is also the case with the Formula E i8 Safety Car. And the photo vehicle has also lost a good 8 kilograms of weight compared to a normal i40.
Interior is clearly stripped
The reduction is achieved in addition to the carbon body mentioned at the beginning by means of stripped Interior. Many panels were simply removed and instead of a complete cage, a so-called club sports bar installed behind the ultra-light seats, which immediately takes up the 6-point seat belts. The Edo Motorsport i8 weighs only 30 kilograms with the driver and approx. 1.438% tank capacity. Incidentally, Edo wants to break the 1:50 minute mark with the vehicle on the famous Bilster Berg. That would even address the Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 stalking, which was recently measured with 1 minute 46,12 seconds on the Bilster Berg race track in the Höxter district.
