“Next level urban mobility. An electric vehicle with a wow factor.” That was the verdict of the #OpelDesignHacks jury when they chose Lukas Wenzhöfer’s extraordinary Rocks Electric concept as the winner of the challenge a few months ago. But Opel didn't stick to one concept. True to the motto of the competition "You design it, we build it", the car manufacturer made the design a reality. The Opel Rocks e-XTREME is not only a unique vehicle, but also a testament to the company philosophy: Turn ideas into reality.
Opel Rock's e-XTREME
Rebecca Reinermann, Marketing Manager at Opel, was enthusiastic about the innovative approach. "With the #OpelDesignHack we have broken new ground in interaction and communication", she tells. "We opened the doors that normally remain closed in the industry and let the Opel community participate in building a concept vehicle. The result is the Rocks e-XTREME, a very cool and unique version of our Rocks Electric. The Rocks Electric, the production version, stands for innovative mobility in every respect.
The unconventional design and locally emission-free driving make it the perfect city runabout. However, Lukas Wenzhöfer, the industrial design student who created the concept, wanted to make the urban Stromer something special. His goal? An all-terrain, fully electric fun mobile with wow factor. "The off-road suitability promotes the feeling of freedom to be able to reach any destination", explains Wenzhofer. "And the increased sportiness promises more driving pleasure to show that electric mobility is more than just a reasonable solution. "
The implementation: From concept to reality
The Opel team enthusiastically accepted the challenge of implementing Wenzhöfer's idea. Building the Rocks e-XTREME had similar requirements to building a concept car. But the colleagues in the Opel concept workshop brought the design to life with the same attention to detail. The Rocks e-XTREME impresses with its eye-catching outward facing wheels, a bright yellow roll bar and a reinterpretation of the Opel Vizor with LED front lights and a turquoise accented Opel logo. To keep the vehicle weight down, the Vizor and fenders were 3D printed. And an unmissable eye-catcher is the prominent carbon spoiler at the rear.
The Rocks e-XTREME: initial reactions and future plans
When the trade audience saw the Rocks e-XTREME for the first time, the opinion was clear: "Just 'Wow'! The Rocks e-XTREME shows how much fun even a small electric vehicle can be and how cool it can be.” But not only the selected specialist audience will experience this impression. The extraordinary one-of-a-kind goes on tour and will be an eye-catcher at various events. So fans of Opel Rocks Electric and Rocks e-XTREME can look forward to a fascinating driving experience.
In conclusion, the Opel Rocks e-XTREME is the result of a successful dialogue between the automotive industry and the creativity of the community. It's a car that shows what's possible when you take ideas seriously and implement them. A one-off that underscores Opel's claim to constantly rethink mobility and actively involve customers in the process. It's here now: The first and only Opel Rocks e‑XTREME!
