Now the so-called “Dyno Mode” from manufacturer Tesla Motors has actually penetrated common rabble. And since then, Tesla's videos have been piling up, some of them Burnout do wild drifting or show various slingshot actions. But while the majority of the owners carry out the actions in parking lots, there are always heroes who show their test drives on public roads. And not without consequences. One of the guys drives his Model 3, with Dyno Mode activated, through a curve and throws the box in the ditch. The whole thing went off lightly, but shows that the manufacturers are definitely thinking something with ESP, traction control & Co. But what is "Dyno Mode" (is also called test bench mode / test bench mode) actually?
“Dyno Mode” on the racetrack
It is apparently installed in most Teslas and if you activate it (Submenu with code word "Dynotest") are three safety-relevant control systems in the form of automatic emergency braking, traction control and automatic stability control disabled. But ASR & ESP in current vehicles are essentially involved in ensuring that the car does not break away even in poor road conditions and that it always remains controllable. Thanks to the Mercedes A-Class (168 series) and the moose test! If you activate Dyno Mode and switch off the safety systems, the full torque goes to the drive axle at full throttle. And with a TESLA Model S, that can be 1150 Nm and even a Model 3 still brings a maximum of 660 NM onto the roll.
This quickly ensures that the tail breaks out as seen in the video above. The Dyno Mode is normally intended for performance tests by workshops or by the manufacturer. As is well known, there are dynamometers so that you can test the performance of the car (English: dynamometer) which only display the correct values if the mentioned security systems switched off are. Tesla deposited the Dyno Mode with the American environmental agency EPA last October, but the document can no longer be found online at the moment. Funny… The process for activating Dyno Mode has apparently started to circulate uncontrollably.
Of course that had not happened yet!
