The CES 2020 in Las Vegas (07. – 10.01.2020) starts today and the manufacturers Continental and Sennheiser are presenting a speakerless audio system there. The audio system without loudspeakers for the interior of the vehicle represents a unique and future-proof system. This system produces a lifelike sound in the car. The Ambeo 3D audio technology from Sennheiser has been integrated into the Ac2ated Sound System from Continental. This sets existing surfaces in the car in motion. You can do without conventional speakers. Together with the 3D audio technology Ambeo Mobility from Sennheiser, the concept of the sound creates a virtual reproduction, which puts the people in the vehicle into a new world of sound. In contrast to the usual audio systems, Ac2ated Sound reduces weight and installation space by up to 90 percent. It is therefore particularly suitable for use in electric vehicles, since it is important for electric cars that weight and space are saved. Ac2ated Sound offers the highest audio quality for processing, recording and playback.
Automatic conversion to 3D audio
The highest level of expertise was combined in the areas of vehicle design, infotainment and acoustics. The joy of music becomes a premium audio experience. Thanks to the Ambeo calibration and the fine tuning, a natural and virtual audio experience is made possible for the people in the vehicle. Ambeo Mobility does not need a special 3D audio source because the integrated algorithm converts the stereo sources into 3D audio. The algorithm examines the content and excellently cuts the sound together. An emotional experience is achieved with the listener. This means that the listener feels as if they are in the middle of the music.
Vehicle that almost as an instrument
Ac2ated Sound sets some surfaces inside the car in motion. This is possible thanks to specially developed actuators. The technique of classic stringed instruments that use the wooden body as a resonance space served as inspiration. The sound experience with the Ac2ated Sound is natural and the vehicle occupants feel like they are in a concert hall. Compared to the usual loudspeaker systems, the audio solution has a low weight and a reduced installation volume. Conventional systems can weigh up to 40 kg due to the number of components. Ac2ated Sound uses existing space and is therefore much more weight-efficient.
The invisible audio technology makes the work of designers and car manufacturers considerably easier. It is no longer necessary to insert wide loudspeaker fronts in the inner surface and to make room for loudspeakers. Many components are no longer required for the Ac2ated Sound because the surfaces in the car move like the loudspeaker membranes. Components such as the door trim, the A-pillar trim, the rear shelf and the roof lining are set in motion. In this way, they emit the sound in different frequency ranges.
