The history of today's "Bayerische Motorenwerke" began in 1916, when on 07.03. the "Bayerische Flugzeugwerke" were founded by a descendant of the developer of the Otto engine. This came about only in 1928 after the takeover of Eisenacher Stahlwerke, where a car brand known at the time, "Dixi", was manufactured.
