Anyone with a "normal“ Mercedes-AMG GT R is on the road, but has fallen in love with the radical GT R Pro or the particularly strictly limited (and extremely expensive) Black Series, the team from Star Performance now a solution. With a comprehensive tuning program, the tuner from Hilden is raising the GT R into the league of the two aforementioned spearheads of the AMG GT family. And so the AMG as "Beast of the Green Hell' describes the sports car as the ultimate driving machine, which is even far more powerful than the Black Series with up to 800 hp if required. But first things first! What exactly did Star Performance do to the track-optimized GT R?
comprehensive carbon aerodynamics
Of course, the ones made of full carbon and aerodynamically efficient immediately catch the eye body parts all around. They are from TIKT performance and improve, among other things, the road holding of the GT R. At the front there is a powerful track-spec front splitter and there are two on each side canards installed. The components should optimize the contact pressure on the front axle. There are also TIKT air collectors integrated into the GT R-Bug. Star Performance also installed a powerful one at the rear rear wing. It stands on milled feet and is also multi-part.
But that's not all. Because a light TIKT carbon bonnet (10 kg lighter than the series) with functional inlets and outlets in the form of two NACA openings for fresh air supply. There are also two outlet openings in the middle of the hood, which transport the hot air away from the engine. The front fenders also got carbon wheel arch ventilation from TIKT, which should ensure improved heat dissipation from the wheel arches. After all, the brake system, but also the intercooler, generates a large amount of heat.
Vollfolierung in shimmering green
In our opinion, the visual highlight of the conversion is the Vollfolierung in semi-matt green, with the implied scale pattern of a snake. And something has also happened with regard to the chassis. An uncompromising KW Competition racing chassis with track tool set-up is installed in the photo vehicle. Alternatively, Star Performance also installs the less extreme KW variant 4-coilover, even with one HLS 2 lift system can be combined. Nothing has changed in terms of the rims, but the tuner has fitted the 10×19 and 12×20 inch OEM light-alloy wheels of the AMG GT R with Michelin Pilot Cup 2R rubber (285/35R19 & 335/30R20).
Increased performance should not be missing
And of course, with a project like this one is allowed performance increase not missing. The 4,0-liter twin-turbo V8 can be upgraded by Star Performance up to 800 PS / 850 Nm be modified. The 585 PS & 700 Nm available ex works are increased by means of Stage 1 software optimization to 650 hp and 780 Nm. The top speed increases from 318 to 330 km/h. Let's continue with Stage 2, why new ones down pipes belong. The result? 730 HP and 850 Nm as well as a V-Max. from 340 km/h. And then there would be Stage 3, which requires modified turbochargers in addition to the hardware upgrades mentioned. According to that, a hefty 800 hp and 850 Nm as well as a top speed of an impressive 350 km/h are on the data sheet.
Optionally, you can also install a transmission reinforcement if desired, there are sports exhaust systems from Akrapovic or Capristo and even the AMG sports brake system can be optimized. For example by means of performance brake pads or Steel braided brake lines. And the brake upgrades are also available for the optional carbon/ceramic brake system.
