Since over 25 years, the car tuning company Motoren Technik Mayer GmbH (short MTM), which comes from Wettstetten, focuses on the refinement of high-performance and sporty models of the brands Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley, The fact that the German company was able to gain a foothold in the fiercely competitive tuning and refining industry is also demonstrated by the location at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Hall 2 and the 2045 stand are not located anywhere in the periphery of this motor show, but in the middle of it. Also, the planned big stage show testifies to a healthy self-confidence, because even the loud rattling is part of the craft. This year, managing director of MTM, Roland Mayer, plans to present the capabilities of his company on the basis of four exemplary examples of the Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen Group. The performance-enhancing modifications benefited two Audi, a Porsche and a Bentley.
MTM RS3 LMS TCR DSG
On the one hand, there is the Audi RS3 LMS that was modified according to the regulations of the "ADAC TCR Germany". This is to be driven in the future by the son of the former rally champion Juha Kankkunen, Niko Kankkunen. The necessary technical specifications are closely based on the existing series standard. The 2-liter turbo engine with 330 PS (243 kW) and 6.200 rpm, reaches the maximum torque of 410 Nm already at 2.500 rpm. After only 4,5 seconds the bolide reaches the 100 km / h mark from a standing start. It is obvious that such a racer with this configuration is not approved for public road traffic. But MTM plans to bring out a similar vehicle, which is clearly superior to this racing version and which meets the German registration requirements. Instead of the standard four-cylinder, a five-cylinder TFSI with 502 hp (369 kW) will now do its work under the front hood. It goes without saying that the chassis and the brakes have to be adapted to this opulent increase in performance. But even the planned styling of the body kit does not deny the actual descent from the racing version. While the latter is dependent on 265/35 18 tires, the roadworthy racer is fitted with 295/30 tires, which are put in the limelight on 11 x 19 "rims from Nardo.
MTM Bentley Continental GT Birkin Speed Eight
How to create a sporty vehicle from a luxury liner that weighs over 2 tons and also otherwise appears somewhat sedate, MTM shows on a Bentley GT Coupé Birkin Speed Eight. Instead of the standard 507 PS (373 kW) turbo engine, MTM revised it so that it now generates an output of 772 PS (568 kW) and 950 Nm. In order to bring this performance to the road, the entire vehicle was put on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The additional 10,5 x 22 ″ Bimoto rims do the rest to aerodynamically loosen up the otherwise stately looking appearance.
Porsche Boxter S
The Porsche Boxter S, on the other hand, is lightweight and only weighs 1.430 kg. The standard output of 350 PS (257 kW) has been increased to 415 PS (305 kW) by the MTM engineers. Instead of the original torque of 420 Nm, 490 Nm are now available. This brings the Boxter from zero to 3,8 km / h in 100 seconds and another 10 seconds later to 200 km / h. The sporty two-seater owes this additional boost to the M-Cantronic with ESD and flap developed by MTM. The exterior of the Boxter, styled by MTM, does the rest. Here, too, the gear train has been revised accordingly. The front axle rests on Michelin rubber in the format Pilot Sport 4S 245/35 with 9 ″ Bimoto rims and on the rear on tires in the format 285/35 20 with 11 ″ Bimoto rims.
A candidate of the special class, however, is the Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus Supercharged. The originally planned 5,2 liter V10 turbo engine from Volkswagen with its 610 PS (449 kW) and 540 Nm, actually already has the usual buzz expected of this car category. But MTM grabbed a fad here too. The engine got an additional screw compressor (Eaton TVS2300), which increases the performance on 800 PS (590 kW) and 8.650 rpm. At 5.100 RPM, 710 Nm are now being implemented, accelerating the vehicle from zero to 100 km / h in 2,6 seconds. No 8,5 seconds are needed to get over the 200 km / h mark. This Audi is also on a big foot. At the front there are Michelin tires of the type Pilot Sport 4S of size 245 / 30 20 and in the back of the format 305 / 30 20. A carbon aerodynamic package is still under development, which can be ordered later this year as an accessory.
