"GSe" comeback: New Opel sub-brand with a long tradition!

GSe - three letters that have a clear meaning for Opel connoisseurs and quicken the pulse. GSe - these have always been sporty and well-equipped models with the flash. While the abbreviation used to stand for "Grand Sport Injection", as in the case of the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE, it is now the new sporty Opel sub-brand and means Grand Sport electric. GSe combines excellent driving dynamics with innovative electrification. In the future, Opel GSe models will be at the top of the respective series.

  • GSe today: sub-brand for top-dynamic, electrified Opel models
  • Opel boss Florian Huettl: "GSe now stands for Grand Sport electric"
  • E for emotion: Another step towards the electrification of the brand

“I am very pleased to be able to announce the return of the well-known GSe abbreviation today – as a sporty sub-brand that will identify our top models. As with our bold and clean design, we've once again taken inspiration from our rich heritage and given it a modern twist. Because in the future, GSe will not only stand for particularly dynamic vehicles that are fun to drive. Rather, it now stands for 'Grand Sport electric' - entirely in line with our ambitious strategy of becoming a completely electric brand," says Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

The award-winning Opel design ensures the sporty look - but future GSe customers can also look forward to a chassis that is just as dynamically tuned and conveys a great deal of driving pleasure. And as with all Opel models, the same applies to the GSe series: The vehicles are subjected to extensive tests, including in the high-speed range, and are therefore "freeway tested" all round. The new GSe models combine all of this with the option of locally emission-free driving – and at the same time redefine performance in keeping with the spirit of the times.

"GSe" comeback: New Opel sub-brand with a long tradition!

Just recently, Opel presented the Manta GSe – the modern, electrified version of the legendary Manta from 1970. The vehicle shows how timeless and up-to-date the lines from back then still are today. What was considered sculptural and straightforward 50 years ago now perfectly reflects the Opel design philosophy in a modern version. The Manta GSe is electric, locally emission-free - and full of emotions. At the same time, it pays homage to the Manta A. Its front provided the inspiration for the design of the new brand face, the Opel Vizor. As if under a closed visor, it integrates the grill, headlights and the Opel Blitz. All new Opel models carry this Vizor, such as the Mokka, Grandland and the new generation of the Opel Astra.

Opel's electrification offensive is in full swing. Every model – passenger cars as well as light commercial vehicles – will also be available as an electrified variant by 2024. 12 electrified models are already driving up with the Blitz. The spectrum ranges from plug-in hybrids such as the Grandland and Astra to purely battery-electric drives such as in the bestselling small car Corsa-e, the “lounge on wheels” Zafira-e Life, the Combo-e Cargo or the largest of the bunch , the Movano-e. By 2028, Opel will be all-electric in Europe. Photo credit: Opel
