Are high beams a good alternative to fog lights? In principle, the high beam is suitable not in poor visibility due to fog or rain. It is sometimes strongly reflected by the small water droplets. Ultimately, the view through the high beam in poor weather conditions tends to get worse rather than better.
When may the rear fog light be switched on?
The rear fog light is located in the rear of the car. It shines red and brightly. After the onset of fog and other weather conditions that make visibility difficult, the rear fog light ensures that road users can see each other better. The rear fog light helps other road users to see you better. Fog lights, on the other hand, improve the driver's view.
The rear fog light may only be switched on when visibility in fog is reduced under 50 meters lies. This distance can be estimated using the delineators at the side of the road. They are exactly 50 meters apart. In principle, there is no obligation to use the rear fog light and fog lights. However, if used correctly, they are helpful. The following rule of thumb applies here in fog:
- Speed in km/h = minimum distance in meters
Does every car bring fog lights?
There is an assumption that by law every car must be equipped with fog lights. That is however nick so. However, most modern vehicles have fog lights. And cheap models can often be retrofitted with fog lights for an additional charge. The lighting varies between xenon, LED and halogen headlights. They depend on the manufacturer and the vehicle price.
- Tip: Going for fog lights and rear fog lights is always a good choice. If visibility is severely restricted, fog lights are a real blessing. But rear fog lights also make an enormous contribution to traffic safety.
