Red Pig 2: Mercedes 280 SEL W 109 widebody from Reviva

The madness on wheels! Even weeks after the Sema Auto Show 2019, we are still receiving spectacular pictures and information about the vehicles on display there. And one of them is this mars red painted 1969 Mercedes 280 SEL (W 108/109) which was created under the project name "Red Pig 2" (Rote Sau). And what this vehicle is based on is not only made clear by the name, but also by the huge appearance. Namely to the legendary 300 CELL 6.3 from 1971 which took the class win as a touring car at the 24-hour race in Spa and was second in the overall ranking. The Racing S-Class then went down in history as the so-called “Red Pig”. And the US tuner Reviva Inc., headed by owner Josh Stahl, wanted to revive the legend of the world's largest tuning fair. And after more than 2 years of work, in cooperation with the tuner Vescio's Customs, he has more than just succeeded.

615 PS and 808 Nm torque

In addition to a wonderful "clean"Widebody Kit (Fenders widened in the sheet metal, rear apron eliminated, no side strips, minimalist front apron with spoiler, etc.) Of course there was also an appropriate engine. Unfortunately, the 6,8 liter V8 engine with two throttle valves, sharper cams, modified rocker arms and pistons as well as 428 PS & 620 NM from AMG does not sit under the hood, but an LS-V8 from General Motors that has significantly more power. Revivia has thrown out the originally installed 4,5-liter V8 of the 280 SEL and installed a 6,7-liter LQ4 engine from 2007 thanks to Manley crankshaft, Manley pistons and connecting rods, Chevrolet Performance cylinder head and other changes deliver hammer-hard 615 PS and 808 Nm maximum torque. This gives you almost 200 hp more than the original at the time and is likely to easily exceed its top speed of 265 km / h.

355 / 30 ZR19 slippers on the rear axle

And the "Rote Sau 2" make no secret of it either. The incorporated angular ones take care of the idle sidepipes the Magnaflow rear silencer for a huge soundscape that naturally increases with increasing speed. And while almost 50 years ago you still had to cope with a clumsy five-speed manual transmission, the 2019 model features a Tremec T56 six-speed gearbox and a McLeod RXT double-disc ceramic clutch for power transmission. And the transmission even has a "Line Lock" function that locks the brakes on the front axle and greases the rear axle burnouts allows. And that ensures that the 355/30 ZR19 slippers on the polished Forgeline RS3 forged wheels with multi-spoke optics including the vehicle disappear into a cloud of smoke at all times. By the way, the front axle is hardly less fat with 335/30 ZR18 tires. And of course the built-in technology is very first-class and completely contemporary.

Independent suspension and new chassis

Worth mentioning are, for example, the fully adjustable Ride Tech coilover kit, the independent wheel suspension and the Wilwood, which is absolutely necessary for an adequate deceleration.sports brake system with black six-piston calipers and slotted and perforated brake discs in the format of a pizza. And every millimeter has also been restored and refurbished in the cabin. On the one hand, the occupants can expect a beige Italian leather interior with bucket seats and a cool wooden steering wheel, on the other hand there are also harness belts, a welded one Roll cage in silver as well as five white round instruments that contain a rev counter that promises 10.000 rpm. This red pig can fly! If we receive timely information on further changes to the "Roten Sau 2", there will of course be an update for this report.
