Comfortably coordinated and remarkably handy thanks to the steering rear wheels

The AIRMATIC air suspension with level compensation and continuous adjustable damping ADS + is standard. The optional rear axle steering with a steering angle of up to 10 ° increases maneuverability and reduces the turning circle by up to two meters. The optional, fully active E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL chassis on a 48 V basis scans the road with a stereo camera and smooths out long-wave obstacles. It also offers additional protection in the event of a side impact.

Compared to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, DYNAMIC SELECT offers an additionally developed MAYBACH drive program. With this setting, the drive power is released even more comfortably and the journey is even quieter and more relaxed:

  • Flatter accelerator pedal characteristic for chauffeur mode
  • Even more comfortable, smooth gearshift adjustment
  • Best possible comfort by starting off in second gear

The setting of the AIRMATIC and E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL air suspension is geared towards maximum suspension comfort in all seats.

The vehicle level is always maintained

The standard AIRMATIC air suspension is particularly sensitive. It combines air suspension bellows and adaptive ADS + dampers, the identifier of which can be changed individually on each wheel, fully automatically regulated, and separately in rebound and compression. The level control is part of the AIRMATIC. It keeps the ground clearance constant regardless of the load on the car. To reduce air resistance and thus fuel consumption, the level is automatically lowered at higher speeds.

The active suspension E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, which is combined with the standard AIRMATIC air suspension, offers even more driving comfort and agility as well as innovative functions such as lifting the body in a side impact. It can regulate the spring and damper forces on each wheel individually. ROAD SURFACE SCAN measures the road with a stereo camera and adapts the suspension before the wheel drives over a bump. Thanks to this predictive control, the body “floats” over long-wave obstacles with almost no vertical movement. With the curve tilting function CURVE, the body leans into the curve instead of tilting outwards. As a result, lower lateral forces act on the occupants and the impression of comfort is further increased.

Both axles can steer and thus reduce the turning circle

The generous interior space of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class naturally also requires corresponding external dimensions. In order to maneuver the trolley conveniently and precisely even in tight spaces, it is equipped with rear-axle steering (special equipment). This reduces the turning circle by up to two meters. Customers have the choice between two variants: rear axle steering 4,5 ° and 10 °. Instead of 13,4 meters, the turning circle is then 12,4 or 11,4 meters.

In vehicles with rear-axle steering as an option, a steering variant with a steering ratio that is around 15 percent more direct is used on the tried and tested four-link front axle. In conjunction with the rear-axle steering, this significantly reduces the need for steering, which also increases driving comfort. Agility and maneuverability are objectively increased, and at the same time the superior stability and precision of a luxury sedan with a long wheelbase are increased at higher speeds.
